Monks!

Assumption Abbey's finest. Look them up! Their monastary is in Bentonville, Ark., and they make one tasty fruitcake.
UPDATE: OOOOOOPS! They're in Ava, Missouri. My bad. Shop NOW for next year. For this Christmas, they are all sold out!

The official photo ...

... taken by the lovely and talented Katherine Bomboy.

I know, I know, it's not about me. But I have to say thanks so much to all who helped me get ready for the cast and crew screening and the red carpet event: Sheryl and Kelly R. for babysitting, Kelly B. for opening up her closet to me in my pursuit of the perfect dress, Maggie and Mary Ann for loaning shoes and accessories, Pat and Amy for assuring me that I looked fine just before dashing out the door, Jerry at Village Cleaners for making sure Scott's suit was cleaned in time, and Renee Smith at the Loft for the highlights and hair style. It takes a village, people.

good night

Sweet dreams!

its starting

Please silence your cell phones and pagers.

the nuckleheads fom 821

Graham (left) and Eric (right). 821 served as one of the producers. Eric is one of Scott's good buddies from the old days - back when they both worked at Kanakuk Camp in Missouri. Graham looks like a movie star but he's actually a lawyer. So I better say only nice things here. I take back the nucklehead comment.

Vip treatment

We kept waiting for them to kick us out of the reserved seats, but no, they were reserved for us. Sweet!

Fun with flowers

Jack Henry and I went to the store and got the fixings for a tasty lunch for the landscaping guys. Then we planted flowers in the new planter Hubs built.

Hubs is busy again

No, not another music project. He's unwinding from the craziness of the past few months with an elaborate landscaping project. The yard is normally his pride and joy but he let it go all summer long. The grass burned up, weeds filled the flower beds and wasps nested in the barbecue grill. But there is progress. Here's evidence of phase one: new shrubs and mulch, plus some new rock edging. He's having some professionals come today to grate the yard and re-seed it. Then he's going to have new gravel delivered for our long, winding driveway. Oh. And he's planting trees. And putting in some rock paths. And having landscapers come to build a stacked stone wall to edge off the driveway. And he's power washing and re-staining the decks. Yeah, he's in hog heaven. Doin' man stuff.

Happy anniversary to us!

I'd love to post a wedding photo from 17 years ago. But no, my wedding photos are not in any kind of digital format, so you'll just have to imagine. Me, with my cascading permed curls, and a wreathe of flowers on my head, a simple Laura Ashley gown and a bouquet of pink roses. A little church in southwest Missouri, with our families by our side. Scott's childhood piano teacher Mrs. Endicott playing Beethoven as I walked down the aisle, hand in hand with my dad. My twin sister, inexplicably, sobbing the whole time.

When Scott took my hand to say our vows, I noticed his copper bracelet - a gift from his grandfather - peeking out from the cuff of his new gray suit. It made me smile; that's so him. When he gazed into my eyes, it was like I was the only girl on the planet, and I knew then it was forever. Seventeen years later I still love the guy like crazy. We're best friends, fiercely loyal, and each other's biggest fan. I guess that's why it works. Happy anniversary, baby!

Take me out to the ... emergency room?

I'm so glad I didn't take Jack Henry to Scott's softball game last night. Scott was tagging a guy out at second and the guy crashed into his hand, dislocating his thumb. Scott nearly passed out and had to be rushed to the emergency room. Thank goodness for his teammates who stayed with him and got him home. Good thing he doesn't need his hands to make a living, oh, wait, he's a piano player. This could be a problem.
