Monkey King

Here's Jack Henry with his classmates, Ian and Alexandra. Clearly Jack Henry enjoys holding court. Incidentally, we put a party hat on him after this picture was taken and he wore it for the rest of the day. Including playtime on the playground. Long after the other kids took off their hats. And all the way home in the car. He wanted to wear it again all day today but I had to draw the line.
Hello, Mommies!
My life is a sitcom
The first thing I did at Jack Henry's cupcake party was drop a dozen cupcakes on the floor. Luckily I brought extras but it did create quite a mess. The party went well in the beginning. Unfortunately, after getting hopped up on sugar, Jack Henry started beating on Winston and Ryan and generally getting rowdy. Then, when I tried to get a nice photo of the three of them together, they all started screaming like crazy. When we tried to explain to Jack Henry we'd be back at the end of the day to take him home, he had a full-on meltdown and was sobbing hysterically when we left. Good times.
He dressed himself this morning
It's Monkey Day!

Jack Henry's birthday is on Saturday but today is the day we are having his monkey cupcake party at his daycare. It's different this year because he's in the pre-school class, which means there are more kids and thus, more rules regarding birthday parties. Balloons are a no-no, as are candles and goody bags. The plates, napkins and cups are OK, and the cupcake toppers have been approved, despite the pointy toothpicks. So we are set for this afternoon and I'm sure it will be fun. The cupcakes are lemon with lemon buttercream icing. I know, I do these every time, but they are good and fool-proof. They of course don't compare to Shara Lunn's handiwork, but I did the best I could. Happy Monkey Day, Jack Henry!

More Monkey Business

The monkey-themed birthday party is still two weeks away, and I'm already dreaming about this adorable monkey costume for Halloween. Is it wrong that I love it as much as I do? Next year he will for sure want to be some kind of super hero, so can I indulge myself just this one last time? It's available at Old Navy for around $20.
Monkey madness

These are the banana-shaped candies for the goodie bags for Jack Henry's monkey-themed birthday party. Overkill, thy name is Joan.
Monkey pencil toppers!

I found these at the cool shop on 21st, Pangaea. I'm going to include these in the goodie bags for Jack Henry's monkey birthday party. The bags will contain crayons, colored pencils and other sensible gifts, but I had to have something that screamed "monkey." It will look cute sticking out of the top of the yellow bag.

Monkey party in a box!

Martha Stewart has done it again: A complete monkey birthday party in a box. It has adorable invitations, plates, cups, napkins, forks, spoons, cupcake toppers, stickers and favor bags. Just add cupcakes and candles. This could be the theme for Jack Henry's third birthday. I figure this is my last year to do something cute. When he turns four it will be all about Spider-man or some such nonsense.
