Aloha! fever is in the air

can you feel it?

tonight is the aloha! party, and we are ready.

these are the yummy pineapple-lemon cupcakes i'm bringing. the little umbrellas we found at world market have sure come in handy. we're finally getting to the bottom of them.

the boy says he can't wait to see the property manager's daughter bella, tonight. i think he's going to give her a little lei bracelet.

i'm frightened that with his new "bieber bangs" girls will start liking him. please say it isn't so!

I saw this article on yahoo news tonight, and thought of you and your blog. To be honest, I had never given cupcakes a second thought until your blog. And recently I've discovered there are entire tv shows dedicated to them. Wow! How far they have come. So it is with sadness that I share this news article with you.

And because you deserve to know, I think you write an excellent blog.

thank you, anonymous. yes, there have been numerous articles predicting the end of the cupcake trend. it is kind of a bizarre thing to fixate on - i mean, it's just cake, right? my hubz loves donuts and i never understood that. then i went to Gibson's in Memphis and I got it. Done right, baked goods can rock your world. Plus, baking them is a fun creative outlet. i recognize the absurdity of making a cupcake that looks like a shark (as I have done) but it's fun for the kids. Other than that, all i can say is that I do love luscious, moist cake with real buttercream icing and to find a little corner shop that bakes cupcakes with love and lots of rich ingredients is such a decadent treat. thanks for your kind words. best, J.

Well, to be honest, I have always thought of cupcakes as a cheap imitation of the real thing. But who bakes a cake any more? If you need a cake, you just pick one up at Wal-Mart. It's kind of sad, really. My mother and grandmother were always baking cakes. I loved them, and I miss them. How many times have you told your son "don't run through the house! You're going to make my cake fall."

Do cupcakes fall?

I can't say I've ever had a great cupcake, but at least now I have a little more appreciation of them. I will be on the look-out for a corner shop selling them and hopefully I will have something delicious.
