the rains came

middle tennessee is devastated. how did this tragedy happen?

simple: too much rain came too fast. thirteen inches of rain over the weekend caused the cumberland river and other waterways to rise to record heights and overflow their banks.

I can't complain - our biggest inconvenience has been the piercing fire alarms going off at all hours due to the water pumps in the basement garage overheating. there's a ton of water down there even still.

when we were evacuated sunday night while the fire alarms were investigated, jack henry made a new friend: our little four year old neighbor ethan. we all congregated in the grocery store's starbucks lounge (cats, dogs, kids and all) and played with matchbox cars and balloon animals.

it took three hours to get it off, and it went on again in the middle of the night, but that's been the worst of our woes.

i moved the car, so luckily it's not floating like the lone vehicle left down in the parking garage, which is now bobbing in 6 feet of water.

now it's time to roll up our sleeves and help our stranded co-workers, friends and neighbors. it's going to be a long clean-up.
